ADESIONE ALLA CAMPAGNA DESS

In data 4 Dicembre 2006, Architettura senza Frontiere Onlus ha aderito alla Campagna DESS - Decennio dell'Educazione allo Sviluppo Sostenibile - proclamato per il periodo 2005-2014 dall’Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite, che ha affidato all’UNESCO il compito di coordinare e promuovere le attività del Decennio.

Finalità del Decennio è quella di sensibilizzare governi e società civili di tutto il mondo verso la necessità di un futuro più equo ed armonioso, rispettoso del prossimo e delle risorse del pianeta, valorizzando il ruolo che in tale percorso è rivestito dall’educazione.

ARCHITETTURA + COOPERAZIONE INTERNAZIONALE
In occasione della Giornata Mondiale del Volontariato, indetta dalle Nazioni Unite, il 5 dicembre e in relazione del riconoscimento per la prima volta ad un architetto del premio Oscar del Volontariato, assegnato da Volontari nel Mondo – FOCSIV; presso la Facoltà di Architettura di Roma “Ludovico Quaroni” si terrà una conferenza sulla Cooperazione Internazionale e sul ruolo che possono avere gli architetti al suo interno.
Il prof. Tonino Paris, direttore del Corso di Laurea di Disegno Industriale, aprirà i lavori e introdurrà brevemente il tema della giornata attraverso il racconto dell’esperienza avuta nella gestione della Fa-coltà di Architettura di Maputo in Mozambico. Il prof. Pietro Garau, direttore Centro Studi Urbanistici per i Paesi in via di Sviluppo dell’ateneo, spiegherà invece che l’equazione fra architettura povera ed architettura brutta è assolutamente scorretta e mostrerà una serie di esperienze felici in vari paesi del sud del mondo. L’architetto Antonello Iuorio, presidente della onlus Architettura Senza Frontiere, presenterà il lavoro dell’associazione in questi anni e approfondirà il ruolo dell’architettura nella coo-perazione allo sviluppo. L’intervento più atteso è ovviamente quello del vincitore dell’ Oscar del Vo-lontariato di quest’anno, ovvero l’architetto Filippo Frazzetta che per questa occasione lascerà mo-mentaneamente il cantiere che sta dirigendo in Tanzania. Proprio su questa sua esperienza di co-struzione di un ospedale e di un centro di accoglienza sarà il suo intervento durante la conferenza. Al termine del quale verrà trasmesso il video girato da una troupe di RAINEWS24. In chiusura Sergio Marelli, direttore di Volontari nel Mondo - FOCSIV e presidente dell’Associazione delle ONG Italiane, farà il punto sulla situazione delle Organizzazioni Non Governative nei paesi in via di sviluppo e parle-rà della scelta di vita alla base del volontariato.
L’ incontro si propone di prospettare agli studenti una prospettiva futura di lavoro in un settore che of-fre l’opportunità di una pratica professionale gratificante e formativa per cui in tutti gli interventi emer-geranno indicazioni pratiche dei percorsi formativi possibili e delle conoscenze richieste.

A new logo for Architecture sans Frontières - International
Rules for an open competition to design the official logo

Background

The network "Architecture sans Frontières - International" ("ASF int") is constituted by national or local organisations based on the principles of the Hasselt Charter (see separate
link). One of its´ aims is to facilitate collaboration and joint actions between its members.
Therefore, the network is about to created a legally constituted organisation called
"Architecture sans Frontières - International".

Extract from the constitution of ASF-International:

"The undersigned entities constitute an independent and non-hierarchical network of notfor-profit and participative organisations concerned with the equitable, social, cultural and environmental commitment of architecture, construction, urbanism and the
conservation of historical heritages to ‘human development‘."

The aim of this competition is to create an official logo that will be used as a trademark of "ASF-International".
This logo is also likely to be used by the national organizations which are part of "ASF int". As much as the aesthetic, the logo will be judged through its capacity to express the aim of the organization in the most simple, original and best way.

Guidelines

The logo should somehow represent main aspects of "Architecture sans Frontières - International". It has to communicate the intervention field of the organisation as well as
its philosophy.

"ASF int" is acting in the architectural field. Logo should express its activity which is
providing expertise in building.

"ASF int" is works all over the world, "without frontiers". The logo should express this worldwide dimension.

"ASF int" is a non profit organisation offering services to those who need expertise in the field of construction but can not afford it. Logo should communicate the idea of solidarity.

"ASF int" is a non governmental organisation (NGO). Logo must be political, philosophical and religious neutral.

"ASF int" is likely to federate organisations from all over the world. Logo should use a multicultural graphic design understandable through any countries.

"ASF int" propose professional expertise made by professional people. Logo should express this idea of professionalism.

"ASF int" is a 21st century organisation able to work with actual tools in our global environment. Logo can use a contemporary graphic design.

"ASF int" is likely to work in urban, modern, high tech as well as rural, traditional or so called "undeveloped" environment. Logo must be understandable in various environments.

"ASF int" partners are likely to be as different as a banker in Hong Kong, a mason in Pakistan, a politician in Bruxelles, a peasant in Senegal, a sociologist in Cairo, or a social worker in Brasil with very different culture and educational level. Logo must be understandable for a very large public.

Graphic Design

Logo must be understandable even by people who don’t know the organization.
It should easily be adapted into a national logo.
The logo will be constituted by two distinguished elements
- A graphic sign
- A separate text showing the name of the organization

Graphic sign

The graphic sign will combine form and color in order to express these ideas.
It should be simple to be easy to understand.
It should be strong to be easy to memorize
It should be original to be easy to recognize
The logo must communicate whether it is displayed big or small, color, black & white or inverted on a black background.

Text

The text will show the full name of the organization:
"ARCHITECTURE SANS FRONTIERES INTERNATIONAL"
The logo should easily be adapted into a national logo. The text "Architecture Sans Frontières International" should be easily replaceable by local organizations name
("Architectes Sans Frontières Spain", "Architectes Sans Frontières Belgique", etc…)
The graphic sign must not include any text.
The text must be placed next to the graphic sign.
Font, size, color and place of the text will be part of the graphic design task.

Submission

Submission documents will be constituted by four pictures and a layout document
Layout
1 PDF file, size A4 showing minimum:
- Original logo in small (height 2cm) and big (height 5cm)
- Its 4 different versions (as described below)
Layout is free and can content explanation text maximum 300 words or concept drawings
Texts must be in English
Document must be anonymous
Pictures
4 JPG files, height 5cm, 300dpi
- Logo, color, displayed on white background
- Logo, black and white, displayed on white background
- Inverted logo color, displayed on black background
- Inverted logo black and white, displayed on black background

Rules

Name, e-mail address and mailing address of the Designer must be detailed in the e-mail together with submitted work.
All valid submission will be shown on the web at:
www.arkitekterutangranser.se/logocompetition
Winner will be advised by e-mail after votes by judges.
He will then deliver the original file (preferably an EPS-file)
Graphics submitted must not contain previously copyrighted artwork.
Winning entry will become property of "ASF int"

End of votes: November 20th, 2006

Judges/ Committee
Organizations who have signed the "Hasselt Charter" will have one vote each. The
proposal that gets the most votes will become the official logo of ASF-International. In
case of an even result, a new election will be held after discussion between decisionmaking
organizations.
